To have a community of which its individuals benefits from national resources i.e. national income and natural resources and understands and contributes towards fulfilling the set National and International goals for development i.e. National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty [NSGRP], Millennium Development Goals [MDG] within set time framework
6. Mission
Environmental Conservation Initiatives [ECOSINI] is a National Non - Governmental Organization [NGO] whose mission is to facilitate participation and an equal distribution of national resources i.e. national income and natural resources benefits to individual communities for the purpose of eradicating poverty through promotion of understanding and participation into sustainable national income and natural resources management and utilization.
7. Objectives
To contribute into community’s improved livelihood through improvement of-; social services, biodiversity, understanding and environmental awareness in a holistic approach
Targeted areas for initial interventions
The whole of Tanzania,
Current activities;
• Well construction activities in Kigoma Rural District
• Creating awareness on different health and environmental issues in the regions – Water source conservation, water resources management, global warming, HIV/AIDS, Cholera
• Developing proposals that cover specific areas in Kigoma, Kasulu & Bukoba districts.
• Improving communities understanding of different National policies and Acts.
8. ECOSINI Staffing –
Senior staffs
[i]The organization has 4 staffs; it is headed by the Director Mr Julius Ishabakaki who worked with the Jane Goodall Institute for the period of 9 years heading the Institute’s Water and Environmental Sanitation Department
Other staffs-
[i] The organization hire temporarily local experienced staffs from different places in the country- and
[ii] Use Government employees through a set agreement when facilitating its activities
[iii] Total number of temporary staffs’ range- from 3 to 7
10. Specific interventions
Sn Area Interventions
1 Water; Resources management, supply & Environmental Sanitation (WES) improvement,
-Conducting water assessments
-Construction of water systems gravity, dams, drilled & dug wells, springs & rain water harvesting
-Creating awareness on environmental sanitation and conservation to youths and adults through different approaches
-Creating awareness on IWRM approach to both adults and youths.
-Facilitate understanding of water policy, law& regulations
-Facilitate stakeholders [communities, institutions] participation in watersheds conservation and protection
-Build capacity of local water experts expertise in [Technicians and Engineers] in water supply i.e. demand assessment, site selection, scheme designing, scheme management, and monitoring & evaluation.
-Facilitate the community to understand the linking factors between water resources degradation and global warming.
2 Agriculture & Food Security

-Facilitate the understanding and practicing of good farming practices and crop husbandry
-Facilitate understanding of different food storage methods
-Facilitate in securing market for local produce for farmers
-Facilitate initiation of studies and research aiming at developing markets, crops and different approaches to be adopted for developing agriculture
3 Forestry- tree planting and natural regeneration
-Support initiation of/existing tree nursery in working areas
-Provide education on environmental conservation, natural regeneration and effects of land degradation
-Facilitate adherence of respect to drawn Land use plan in the project area
4 Community Health- focusing on Malaria, Respiratory diseases TB, HIV/AIDS and others
-Create more awareness on the diseases spread prevention and cure through education information & counseling[EIC]
-Raise awareness of the diseases, establish education centers for knowledge exchanges, HIV/AIDS voluntary-testing and counseling,
-Facilitate initiation of studies and research on different diseases; outbreak, spread forecasting, treatment and mitigation
5 Gender and Equity Awareness raising and application in planning
-Create more awareness on the issue; facilitate improvement of the involvement of women in different planning and decision making bodies
6 Community Capacity Building
-Contribute in execution of community owned projects, i.e. infrastructures, legal assistance, education support etc
7 Awareness of different national policies for-‘ usage, owning, renting, conserving and protecting i.e. forestry, water, land also national policies for-; education, health human & individual rights with emphasis to marginalized groups or individuals
-Translate and disseminate different National policy to the communities
-Facilitate the acquisition of different rights to the community i.e. title deeds, loans application and processing
-Facilitate the understanding and practicing respect of human rights to marginalized groups
-Provide legal assistance to discriminated individuals or groups
8 Community empowerment, produce development and marketing
-Explore market for different produces in the region [coffee, fruits, and palm-oil]
-Explore possibility of adding value to different produce from the region
- facilitate the community to improve marketing understanding and access competitive markets
9 Education support [scholarship and talent identification, appraisal & development]
-Facilitate the application of GIS as a training tool and as a tool to facilitate resources assessment and evaluation
-Facilitate opportunity/exchange field training programs for university & college students from/to different Nationals from /to the ongoing projects
-Provide scholarship support to talented children to special schools or college
-Establishing study or field based clubs i.e. science, biology, mathematics, geography History, English, Physics, Chemistry secondary schools in the project areas
-Facilitate the development of talents and ambitions among pupils in schools
-Facilitate conducive environment for girl’s in day secondary schools i.e. construction of dormitories, support teachers and provide teaching materials etc
-Facilitate the provision of life skills education to youths in and out of school
10 Global Warming -Create awareness on Global Warming to local communities,
-Facilitate the community to link their living with causes of global warming
-Facilitate Monitoring and Participation in Global and National strategies for reducing carbon emission for the local communities
-Help natural areas to adapt to the effects of climate change
